Business directory websites are very helpful and useful. They offer information on different things such as information on restaurants or where local hangouts are. Both paid and free business directories that are online can be created by anyone that knows how to make one.
- Grab your directory software. Purchase a domain name and a hosting service for your directory. If your directory focuses on a specific geographical area then you should consider including that in your domain name. To register your domain name you can use either of these websites such as GoDaddy.com, NameCheap.com, or Register.com.
- Decide on your specific platform. If you don't mind doing your website directory by scratch then you can use wordpress.com. Wordpress is a free blogging site. You can also use scripts to make your website directory. An example of scripts that you could use to make your directory are the PHP Link Directory version 2, and Gossamer Links.
- Download your directory software onto the hard drive on your computer. Then upload it to the web hosting service. Know that the web hosting should have a file management application that allows you to upload your files so that you can start your business directory. - Make your basic category structures that you want for your businesss directory. This includes the business name, addresses, and phone numbers.

- Test out your business directory to make sure that it works properly. Make sure that you click on each of the business categories to make sure that you can view all of the business listings that you created. Also check all of the directory links to make sure that they work properly and go to where they are suppose to.
