How to Create a Consistent Exercise Routine
It's common wisdom that exercising is good for your health. But, to make lasting health and fitness changes, you'll need to exercise regularly. By developing a consistent exercise routine, you can make exercise a priority in your life and a lifelong habit.
- Make exercise a priority before doing anything else on your schedule. This means scheduling a time in the morning where you can exercise. People who exercise in the morning are more likely to be energized for the rest of the day. The problem with trying to fit in exercise during a different part of your schedule is that sometimes you will not make time for it. To make exercise truly a consistent habit, it’s best to schedule some form of exercise every day. On days where you don't want to exercise strenuously, this could be a simple outdoor walk.
- Keep an exercise journal were you list specific goals you want to achieve. By writing down goals, you will be more motivated to stick with your exercise routine. This could be losing a certain amount of weight or developing a certain amount of strength. Keep track of your progress by writing down how much you’ve achieved after every workout or after every week.
- Have a friend work out with you to help keep your motivation up. You can encourage each other while making progress on your fitness goals. A friend will also help you stay accountable to your desire to have a consistent exercise routine.
