How to Create a Moving Checklist
Creating a moving checklist can help a person to save some time and stay organized. Moving to a new location is often stressful, especially if a moving company is going to handle most of the property transportation. By having a checklist, the homeowner can help the move to go as smoothly as possible.
- Use a computer to create a moving list. Start your list well in advance of the move so you do not have any problems. Make a column for each room in your current house. List all of the items in each room that you plan to take yourself. Print two copies of the checklist.
- Create a second checklist if you plan to hire a moving company. Use the same format as the first list. Type in every item that you want the moving company to include on the truck. Print three copies of this list.
- Give a copy of the second checklist to the movers once they arrive on moving day. Walk through each room to make sure there is no confusion about which items the movers are going to load on the truck. You can make the movers job even easier by having everything on the list of items you plan to move yourself out of the home before the movers arrive.
- Cross off the items on your list as you load them for transporting to the new location. Watch the movers load the truck and cross off the items on their list. Walk through your home to make sure everything you are moving is out of the house.
- Unload the property you move yourself once you arrive at the new location. Take the second copy of your checklist and cross off each item as you remove it. Once the moving truck reaches your new location, use the second copy of that checklist to make sure everything arrives. Go over each checklist a final time to make sure all of your property is at the new location.
