How to Create a Study Plan for a Math Test

Making a study plan for an upcoming math test will allow you to review and study the material you have learned in class. The study plan helps you to identify areas in that you will need to study and prioritize your time efficiently. The plan will also remind you what materials you need and make timeline for studying and test preparation.

  1. Determine
what material will be on the exam. Figure this out at least one week
prior to the exam. Gather your class notes, homework, text book,
quizzes and prior tests to see what material could be covered on the
exam. Request extra worksheets or practice problems from the teacher
and ask them what materials you'll need the day of the test. Make a
checklist of the materials, and ensure that you have everything
    ready the night before.

  2. Divide the
material that will be on the test into the amount of days you have
left before the test. For example, if there are five concepts and
five days, split each concept into one day of study time. Allow
extra study time for concepts that you are struggling with. Make
sure that your study time is quiet, and in a well-lit distraction
    free area.

  3. Make flash
cards of key concepts, equations and definitions that are likely to
be on the test. Plan to study all flash cards every night, until the
day of the test. Make sure you know all flash cards thoroughly.

  4. Schedule
review time and one or two practice problems every night until the
test. Set aside time for an overall (brief) review at least three to
four nights in advance of the test. This will allow you to ask
questions of the teacher if you have any.

  5. Schedule a
final review the night before the test. Plan to get a good night's
sleep and review the checklist to make sure that you have all of
    your materials together.
