How to Create an Entity-Relationship Diagram for an Auto Service
The purpose of an entity relationship diagram is to give a visual representation of the relationship between the parties in a relationship. It typically contains the separate entities, their respective attributes, and the relationships. The visual representation helps to understand these components.
The entity relationship diagram is a useful way to break down the relationship between entities and attributes, which can make the commonality between them easier to comprehend. It is a good illustration that defines these relationships and how they relate to one another.
Directions:
- Determine the entiies in what you are putting together. These entities are nouns that are descriptive of a specific system, laws or a story scenario. Once you have determined these components, or entities, you will need to write them down on paper. Then, you will draw a rectangle around each of the names of these entitles.
- Connect the bodies that share a common relationship with a line. On the line connecting the common entities, illustrate a diamond and identify the relationship within the diamond.
- Next, identify attributes, and state them in circles. Connect the entities that share commonality with the specific attributes using a line. Specify the common link between that specific one and its attribute over the line.
- Consider other numbers or elements you can add for descriptive purposes for each of the parties. These may be specific descriptive elements that can elaborate on a specific entity. With these other elements, you can connect those relationships with dots between them.
