How to Create an Optometrist Newsletter

A newsletter for an optometrist's office is an excellent marketing tool. The newsletter lets patients and potential patents know about deals, optometry news and office information. Getting the entire office involved can help bring depth and knowledge to the newsletter.

  • Schedule an employee meeting to discuss the newsletter. Make a list of newsletter topics. For example, topics can include vision health tips, optometry news or changes in office hours or procedures. Decide whether the newsletter will be weekly, monthly or yearly. Discuss ideas for recurring columns.

  • Include the boss. Ask the optometrist whether she would like to contribute to a recurring column. The boss can use this as a way to showcase her skills, knowledge and general friendliness to patients.

  • Determine how to distribute the newsletter. Printing, copying and mailing the newsletter can be costly. Emailing the newsletter is a cost-efficient way to ensure the information reaches all interested patients.

  • Collect a list of recipients. When patients sign in for their appointment, ask them to provide their email address to receive the newsletter. If they seem hesitant, mention that the newsletter might have coupons and specials they could use.

  • Create a coupon. Work with the office manager and optometrist to develop a coupon for the newsletter. Make the coupon expire after a few weeks. Be sure to note whether the coupon can be combined with other deals or specials.

  • Include something for the kids. Add information about children's vision health. Include a small word game or puzzle a child can complete.
