How to Curl Straight Hair
Straight hair can be curled in a number of ways depending on the outcome you are looking for. Many people with straight hair want to have curls for one night and then go back to straight again. Other people with straight hair want permanent curls, or at least those that last a couple months, which this would require a permanent or chemical that curls the hair.
- Wash your hair thoroughly and condition it before you begin styling. This will help make the curls softer and last longer.
- Decide if you want to have your hair curly for more than one day. If you just want to curl it for a night out, you can use hot rollers. These are placed in your hair and left in for several minutes to get the exact type of curl you want. There are many sizes of hot rollers. The smaller the hot rollers, the curlier your hair will be; the bigger the roller, the looser the curls. If you want your hair to be more permanent with curls, you will probably want to consider a chemical permanent that your salon stylist can apply for you, but these are also very harsh for your hair.
- Use a curling iron to add just the right amount of curls. Make sure you buy the ceramic irons because these cause less damage. To make more curls, section off smaller parts of your hair and curl a little at a time. If you just want to give the ends of your hair a flip out, a traditional curling iron is a great way to do this. You may want to purchase several sizes of or a curling iron that will adjust to shorter and thinner hair.
- Finish off by using hairspray to keep your locks in place for the evening or day. This will help keep your hair from being wind-blown and help your curls last.
