How to Cut Back Phlox
A Phlox is not only a beautiful plant, but it is also very fragrant. The plant is fairly easy to take care, which is one of the reasons it is so popular among gardeners. It is recommended that the plant be pruned in the fall.
The Phlox is a beautiful flowering plant that is commonly seen in many gardens around the world. During the flowering season the plant produces bright colored flowers. The plant should be cut back, which is considered a drastic form of pruning, when it is dormant. This normally takes place in the fall or when the flowers on the plant die. This can either be done before or after the plant produces flowers. Some gardeners do this so they can easily control when the flower blooms and it is also possible for them to control the height. This is something you can easily do with a pair of sharp pruning shears.
- Use gardening shears to prune the plant back at least 2-inches before the plant actually blooms. This is beneficial in helping you maintain the size and shape of the plant. This is only a suggestion and is not something that must be done.
- Use gardening shears to prune the plant back once the plant has bloomed. This should be done to encourage new blooms on the plant.
- Use hedging shears to cut the plants down to the ground in the fall. This should be done once the leaves has been exposed to and killed by frost.
