How to Cut Business Postage Costs

To achieve an element of success a small business must cut their expenses as much as possible. One of the best ways to reduce a small business expense is by cutting business postage cost. Cutting your postage cost allows you to manage your business expenses and leave you with savings to build the business.

  1. Advertise your business and indicate on the advertisement that customers who wants to obtain additional information need to send a self-address envelope (SASE). This way your customer pays for the postage instead of you.

  2. Send your mail using bulk mail. It takes more time to send bulk mail, but it cost you less than sending regular mail. However, only use this method if you are sending out a large amount of newsletters. It is not worth it if you are sending out 10 or 15 newsletters.

  3. Buy forever stamps for your business. The forever stamps prices does not change when the Postal Service adjust their postage rates.

  4. Use the email system to communicate with your customers rather than using regular mail. Using an email system is efficient and will save you the cost of postage and handling.

  5. Request your customer’s permission to send their invoices electronically rather than through the mail. Most customers now have a computer and will gladly accept your offer.

  6. Pay your bills online instead of through the mail. Many banks and credit unions now offer their customer's free bill paying access. Check with your bank to see if this is an option for you and check if there is a cost involve because some do charge a small fee for this type of service.

  7. Eliminate the additional cost involve with mailing a package. This means buying a scale, tape measure and printing your postage online. This saves you from driving back and forth to the post office.

  8. Compare the Postal Service rates to other mail carriers in your area. Even though the postal service has been around for a long time, it does not necessarily mean they offer you the cheapest rate.
