How to Cut Tofu Cubes
Tofu has long been used as a staple among vegans and health food enthusiasts alike. With its growing popularity, more and more people are giving this soy based protein a try. One of the easiest ways to work with tofu is by adding it to a traditional stir fry dish. To do so, you must first cut the block of tofu into more manageable pieces.
Items Needed:
- Sharp 8-inch chef’s knife
- Tofu, firm or soft as per recipe instructions
- Cutting board, preferably wood
- Prep Your Tofu: Unwrap the tofu and drain away any liquid that remains in the packaging. Remove the block of tofu and if desired, run it under clear, cold water to remove any packaging residue. Pat your tofu dry with a few sheets of paper toweling or a clean, lint-free kitchen cloth prior to continuing.
- Create the First Cut: Place the tofu onto the center of your cutting board and carefully cut the block into four equal sections, running your knife lengthwise along the block. This will give you four new thinner blocks of tofu of equal thickness to work with. Place one of the sliced sections of tofu face-down on the cutting board and make a single slice lengthwise down the block.
- Finish the Slices: Using your fingers to keep these new slices together, use your knife to now cut three additional slices from the block, this time moving crosswise against the tofu. You should end up with six or eight neatly cut cubes of tofu. Set these squares aside and repeat this step with the remaining tofu.
