How to Deal With a Biting Dog

A biting dog is a serious matter for a dog owner. A biting dog puts other people and dogs at risk because of its behavior. A biting dog also poses a risk to itself. A dog that causes significant damage by biting may be put down by the municipality in which it did the damage. The dog owner may also face legal consequences.

  • Be stern with your dog when it is
displaying aggressive behavior. Do not let the dog get away with any
kind of aggressive behavior that may lead to the dog biting a
person. Firmly tell the dog “no” anytime it exhibits any kind of
    behavior that is not appropriate.

  • Take the dog to a professional dog
trainer if you notice that methods you are employing are not
working. You may also not have a lot of time to train your dog. A
professional dog trainer can train your dog not to bite while you
    deal with your other obligations.

  • Take notice of what makes your dog
want to bite. There may be certain situations that you may wish to
avoid in the future. If being around other dogs at the park makes
your dog want to bite, do not take the dog to the park when there
are likely to be other dogs around.

  • Do not aggressively play with your
dog. This can easily make the dog more aggressive and more likely to
    engage in biting.

  • Consider purchasing a muzzle for
your dog. A muzzle will prevent the dog from biting anything.

  • Read as much as you can about
biting dogs. Learn about what makes dogs want to bite and what makes
    dogs aggressive.

  • Start training your dog to stop
biting as soon as you notice the problem. Do not wait until the
    problem progresses.
