How to Decorate Round Windows

Decorating round windows can be somewhat of a challenge because of the fact that most window coverings that you see in stores are designed to fit those windows that are rectangular or square in shape. That being said, there are a several options for decorating a round window.

  • Draw a prototype for your window. Make a circle that is the same size as your round window on some cardboard. Draw designs on the cardboard such as swirls or flames. Use a utility knife to cut out the image. Once you are finished, the cardboard should fit right over the glass in the window and allow light to shine through the holes in the design.

  • Make a frost design for your window.  Take a sheet of white vinyl and place in on some poster board. Cut out different design patterns with the poster board as your guide. When you are finished put the vinyl directly on top of the poster board pattern. The vinyl will stick to the window and display the beautiful pattern that you created whenever the sunlight comes into the room.

  • Create a panel for your window. Make a removable round panel to fit against the existing glass and use translucent paint to decorate the window. You can use a variety of colors creating a rainbow effect or stick to one or two subtle colors for your design.

  • Use your child's artwork. Take a drawing that your child made at school to decorate your window. You can even take several of their paintings and cut out different pieces to create a collage effect.

  • Use customized blinds. Stores that specialize in blinds can special order circular blinds to fit your window size. These are available in wood and other materials.
