How to Decorate Wood Windows
Decorating the wood portion of your windows can make all the difference on the appearance of your home. Whether your goal is to simply blend the image of the window with the surrounding theme of your home or have the window stick out, there are certain steps that need to be taken for this type of project.
Things You Will Need:
- Soap
- Water
- Cloth or towel
- Wood putty
- Sandpaper
- Primer
- Paintbrush
- Paint
- Top coat
- Clean and prepare the wood with regular soap and water and dry thoroughly with a piece of cloth or towel.
- Repair any flaws in the wood by examining the appearance of the grains and filling in any gauges and scratches with wood putty.
- Sand the areas where you applied the putty. If the wood you are painting has been painted on before, make sure to sand the rest of the wooden area as well. This is necessary in order to ensure that the paint sticks to the surface.
- Decide on the type of paint you will use for this project. In order to do this, simply look at the surrounding elements of the room or the exterior of your home. Look at the accessories in the room and decide whether you wish to have them blend in or if you wish to use an opposite color to ensure that the accessories stand out.
- Apply primer to the wood with a paintbrush to prepare for the color paint you have chosen.
- Paint the first coat of paint onto the wood after the primer has dried and allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Paint the second coat of paint after the first coat has dried and finish with a top coat. There are a number of different top coats to use, such as glossy, semi-gloss or matte.
