How to Decorate a Garden Patio

Incorporate factors including where you live, the climate where your residence is located and space to fit your decorations when mapping out your garden patio design. You may have less space to decorate in if you live in a city compared to a neighborhood or town. However, even small spaces can look as nice as a large garden patio with proper planning.

  1. Decide if you want to blend your garden patio in with the rest of your home or if you want it to stand out. Choose colors according based on your decision of whether or not to create a patio displaying dramatic flair or understated elegance. Pick hues that coincide with your neighborhood or city if you like understated elegance. Place opposing shades on your patio if you gravatate towards bold statements.

  2. Purchase plants and flowers that grow in the climate you live in. Those of you who live up north will want to plant vastly different vegetation than those who live in the south. You have a wider selection of plants to choose from if you keep your greenery in pots. You can bring them inside during weather that is too cold or hot. Choose from an assortment of ground and hanging pots for your flowers to increase the "wow" factor of your patio.

  3. Add furniture including chairs and a table where you can fit them but still maneuver around. You may want to go with a wrought-iron decorating theme or you might enjoy displaying wicker furniture. Your furniture choice will help you design the rest of your patio. Again, look to climate when choosing furniture because wicker items may not hold in hot, desert temperatures while areas that receive regular rain are hard on metal and wood based table and chairs.

  4. Incorporate lattice and pull-down shades to lesson the effects of harsh elements including sun exposure and wind. You can use lattice to amp up your overall decorating theme.

  5. Factor in space when planning for your garden patio decorations. You can place flowers in hanging pots to give you more room to decorate if you have a smaller space. Groups of ground pots can visually orient a large patio by making it appear cozy and inviting.
