How to Decorate a Patio on a Budget
Learning how to decorate a patio on a budget doesn't have to be a challenge. With the wide assortment of patio furnishings available, such as furniture, accessories, grills and fire pits, it may seem impossible. By utilizing a few simple tips about where to find the best deals and recycling items you already have at home, you can achieve a beautiful and comfortable looking patio.
1. Look for bargains. Yard sales, eBay, Craig’s list and the newspaper classifieds are great places to find deals on patio furniture and accessories. Many people sell used furniture that is in good to excellent condition.
2. Watch for sales. Check the newspaper ads and fliers for sales on patio furniture. Go to online sites and search for coupon codes. There are many stores that will offer free shipping or 10% off the total order. Some store websites will even offer a free accessory item if you purchase a large order.
3. Credit card offers. Some stores will offer special discounts to customers if they qualify for the store’s credit card. This usually requires that the purchase be placed on the credit card and in return, the customer receives a 10-20% discount. It is good to take advantage of this type of a deal if you can pay the credit card off when you receive your first statement.
4. Visit the thrift shops. Many thrift shops have patio accessory items. Look for decorative accessories such as colorful planters, rugs and outdoor lighting. You may even find grill covers, grill accessories or patio furniture covers.
5. Shop midseason. Many stores start to put their summer items on clearance or offer big discounts half way through the summer season. This is a great way to get those more expensive items that you had your eye on at a discounted price.
6. Grow your own flowers. Instead of buying grown flowers from the nursery, consider growing your own from seed. You will have to start this indoors during the winter or spring season and replant them into your favorite planters once summer arrives.
7. Recycle items you already own. A new coat of fresh paint to furniture or new pillow and cushion covers can add a new look to your patio. Paint and fabric are relatively inexpensive items to buy.
