How to Decorate a Screened-In Porch
Having a screened-in front porch allows you to enjoy more of the outdoors, without worrying about mosquitoes and other pests. A screened-in porch is like adding another room to your home during the months with nice weather. There are a number of ways to decorate this space to make it more inviting and useful for you and your family.
- Remove everything from the porch and look at the space. You will want to get rid of clutter, such as magazines, coats, shoes and mittens.
- Determine how you want this area to be used. Do you want comfortable seating to make it like a second living room, or would you like to turn the porch into another dining room? Once you know what you want, shopping will be easy.
- Look at your flooring to see if you are happy with it. If not, determine whether you would like to install tile, an indoor/outdoor area rug or another type of flooring. There are some very attractive rugs these days and putting one down is the easiest option.
- Shop for the appropriate furniture. Choose a nice table and chairs for dining. Choose outdoor sofas and chairs if you would like to make the porch a sitting area. For a seating area, be sure to choose tables to place on each end of the sofa and one for in front of it.
- Think about the lighting needed for the porch. Choose lighting that is made for porches and outdoors. Soft lighting gives a more relaxing feel to the area. However, you may want one brighter light for times when you want to read.
- Hang family photos or artwork on the walls. When hanging family photos, choose frames that are all the same or work well together.
- Plant flowers, plants and herbs in containers. As long as your screened-in porch gets enough sun, plants will grow well there. Choose pretty containers for your porch garden.
