How to Deliver IT Training
There are multiple ways of delivering information technology training, making it easy to cater the lessons to your audience. Some methods, such as overhead projections and PowerPoint presentations, work well for visual learners. Other people may need a more hands-on approach to learn IT concepts.
- Know the IT concepts and how to present them to the attendees. You need to teach the IT training so that it is contextualized to a specific audience. If, for example, you are teaching computer applications, you will need to emphasize different aspects to comport with the particular industry you are addressing. Some IT lesson plans require an interdisciplinary approach: IT training covering computer audio would need to use some concepts from music theory, for instance.
- Use slideshows that have an emotional impact. When teachers use overhead projectors to broadcast a PowerPoint presentation, they should integrate slides that elicit an emotional response with their audience. For example, use hyberbole to convey your points. A picture of a sad person in front of a mad boss will emotionally grab your audience more than simple text stating the worst case scenario of IT system failure.
- Let your IT trainees decide how they want their training delivered. Some may want on-site training, while others will prefer online IT training.
- Make sure any on-the-job IT training is being monitored. If IT training has been undertaken by a company to achieve measurable results, you’ll want to monitor the trainees to see how well they can transfer their learning to their jobs.
