How to Deodorize and Clean a Drain
If you notice a smell coming from the sink in your bathroom or kitchen, you will want a safe solution to eliminate the odor. Using harmful chemicals to mask the odor will cause harm to your pipes. Using baking soda, boiling water and white vinegar, you can combat the odor and clean your drains at the same time.
- Place a pan of water on the stove and let it heat to a boil.
- Pour about a half a cup of baking soda into the drain.
- Pour a cup of white vinegar and pour it down the sink along with the baking soda. The chemical reaction between the two ingredients will create a foam. Allow the foam to work for twenty minutes.
- Pour the boiling water over the foaming mixture of the baking soda and vinegar.
- Run some more hot water through the pipes to insure that the solution has been worked through the pipes.
- Repeat the process in all drains in your home, including tub and shower. This will not harm the pipes and will deodorize as well as clean them out.
- Repeat the process at least once a month or when you notice an unpleasant smell coming from one of your drains. This process help eliminate the odors but it will also help clean the drains, and perhaps prevent the dreaded household clog.
