How to Design Dog Kennels

Dog lovers want what is best for their beloved pooches. This means ensuring that their pets have a comfortable place to rest and relax. Gone are the days of traditional doghouses that provided just enough room for the dog to lie in. Kennels come in a variety of styles and sizes and create the perfect retreat for dogs to feel at ease.

1. Select the size and style that you want for the kennel. Make sure that you size the kennel appropriately. Having one that is too big or too small will create problems with your dog.

2. Choose the layout that you want for the kennel. Keep it practical and functional for both you and your dog. Allow enough space so that you can easily access the kennel, without being restricted by its size. Some useful accessories to include with your kennel are a gate (to ensure the safety of the dog) and concrete floors, which make the kennel easier to clean.

3. Design the features of the kennel. Include a shading area where your dog can cool down, during the summer months. Also, have a separate area where the dog will eat and relieve themselves. You do not want these things to be in close proximity. Determine if you want to add a heating or cooling unit, as well.

4. Decide what materials to use to construct the kennel. Kennels can be made out of steel, wood or concrete. Each material has its benefits. Steel and concrete are strong and sturdy and would be more durable than a wood kennel. However, a wood-based kennel would be easier to build. Whichever material suits your needs best is the one that you should select.
