How to Design Gift Baskets

If you have been looking for a gift basket for a friend or loved one as a gift but can't find exactly what you envision, you can turn your idea into a handmade gift. These wonderful gift baskets are easy to assemble and are personal.

  1. Choose a theme or style for your gift basket. This may be a fun theme such as a movie gift basket with microwaveable popcorn and DVDs or movie tickets, or a gift basket that includes what the gift recipient enjoys. Hobby gift baskets for a specific hobby like fishing or gardening are also popular.

  2. Purchase the items you will need to fill your gift basket based on the theme or style you choose. You need enough items to fill it, and you need to choose a container. It can be a basket or something more suited to the theme of the basket such as a water bucket for a car wash gift basket or a clay pot for a gardening gift basket. Choose filling for the basket such as plastic grass or tissue paper. The filling may also fit the theme such as lining the bottom of a housewarming basket with dish towels.

  3. Assemble the gift basket by lining it with the filling material. Add items starting with the biggest and tallest first. They will go toward the back of the basket. Continue adding items one at a time working toward the front with the medium and small items. Once all items have been added, you can rearrange some of them until you are satisfied with how the basket looks.

  4. Wrap the gift basket wrap around the basket, being careful not to ruin your arrangement. Tie it closed with coordinating ribbon.
