How to Make Newspaper Ads

How to Design Newspaper Ads

If you are looking to place and ad in a newspaper, make sure that it is designed properly.  Properly designed ads grab the attention of readers making them more willing to respond to the advertisement at which they are looking.

  • Call the newspaper that you will be placing your ad with and ask about pricing for ad sizes.  Pricing is different for each size of ad and you want to choose the size that best fits into your budget.  Also, you need to know how large the space is before you design your ad.

  • Decide on the wording to be including in your ad to fit into the size that you have chosen.  Wording should consist of short sentences or phrases to give details about the content of your ad without being overwhelming.  Readers may not read an entire ad if it has too many words or sentences crammed into the advertisement space.

  • Choose a font for your newspaper ad that is readable and bold to get as many people to read it as possible.  Also choose a font size that is appropriate for your ad.  Fonts should be no less then 12 points to make it readable.

  • Consider adding a headline to the beginning of your ad that emphasizes what the ad is about.  Headers grab the attention of readers especially if you are offering a good deal or sale in the heading text.

  • Add a logo to the bottom of the ad if you are speaking about a specific brand or business.  This adds brand recognition to the advertisement letting people know what the ad is for when they first glance at it.

  • Make sure to add addresses, website information and phone numbers to ads so that people can find information quickly if they are interested in the advertisement.  People will be more apt to respond to an ad if they know that they can find details in a quick manner.
