How to Design Notepads

A notepad is useful in many different ways. They are great for businesses and to make shopping lists and reminders. Whether you want to design notepads for trade shows or a gift, they can have photos and other graphics to complete a personal style. The notepads are easy to design and you can use software such as Adobe Illustrator.

Things you will need to design a notepad:

  • Design software

  • Internet access

  • Computer

  1. Figure out the size of notepads you want to create. You can make standard letter notepads for customers to write notes for a seminar or training session. A smaller pad can be used for event and trade shows. Most notepads have 25 to 30 pages.

  2. Determine if you want to print the pads yourself or use a commercial printer. If you work with a commercial printer, it will save time and labor. You can also print the pages with an inkjet printer. Next, cut and bind them by hand with specific adhesive.

  3. Select the guide option in the design software for margins. Make sure the margins are set at ¼ inch from the edge. You can put graphic elements in the margin guides or they will be cut off during printing.

  4. Put the logo and text on the notepad. Include the contact information such as business name, phone, web and mailing address. If it is for seminars or events, add the seminar name, city location, and dates.

  5. Look over the information and proofread the notepads for spelling and accuracy.

  6. Make sure you save the file in the format the printer dictates. You will then attach the file and send it to the printer through email. If it is an online printing service, you will upload the design as indicated on the website.
