How to Design Platinum Engagement Bands
A wedding ring announces to the world the love and commitment of a couple to one another. One of the most popular metal choices for couples today is platinum. Platinum is a white metal that is 95 percent when found in its natural form. Designing a platinum engagement ring can be expensive but is backed by lasting durability.
- Determine the amount of money you and your partner are comfortable with spending. It may even be helpful to begin setting aside a comfortable payment amount for three to four months in advance. Keep in mind a wedding ring is also an investment and should be treated as such. Typically, when determining how much ring you can afford you'll need to add up the total of two months of your salary. Don't forget to factor in the cost of the groom's band as well.
- Chose a desired bandwidth. Common bandwidths range between 2 and 6 millimeters. The wider the ring, the more space for detail and engraving.
- Chose your desired diamond size and cut. The size of your wedding ring will rely entirely on the amount of money you can afford to spend on it. Diamonds are available in princess square, marquise, round, oval, pear, heart and emerald rectangle cuts. If you have the extra money to spend, you may even decide to add a colored stone. This selection will add both unparalleled beauty and a hefty price upgrade to your platinum band design.
- Chose a stone setting that compliments your ring set. The setting of the stone is how the stone will be inlaid within the band. Commonly, the stone is raised above the band in a claw setting. You also have the option of grouping several smaller stones or placing one large stone with smaller stones surrounding it.
