How to Design a Bedroom Floor Plan
If you are tired of the same old bedroom, you can change the look of the space easily by rearranging your furniture and placing it in a new design that will help the room to appear larger and more spacious. Incorporate a few new furniture pieces or decorative items into the space to give it a fresh look.
- Measure the size of all of the walls within your bedroom. Be sure to measure on the outer side of any woodwork. You do not want to place furniture in a spot where it overlaps and window or door frames.
- Measure the size of all furniture pieces that you plan on placing in your bedroom space.
- Write down all of the measurements for both your walls and furniture on a separate sheet of paper to assist you in determining the placement of your furniture and other design elements.
- Purchase numerous sheets of large poster board from your local department store. It is best to choose a white poster board so that you can experiment with color options if you would like.
- Draw in your furniture pieces; be sure to write down the height and width of each piece when you draw it into place. Keep track of the amount of wall space that you have left for each wall in order to properly determine if a furniture piece is going to fit on a certain wall within your bedroom.
- Repeat step six using a few different furniture layouts on multiple poster boards so that you can decide which furniture placement allows you to have the most open floor space and symmetry within the space.
- Decide which floor plan you like the best and discard of the others.
- Arrange the furniture into place as dictated by your design layout.
