How to Design a Grooming Salon

Grooming salons are a place where you can take your cat or dog to be washed and groomed. You want to design a grooming salon to accommodate owners that are waiting for their pets as well as a place where pets can enjoy the experience of being groomed. With proper planning you can design the perfect grooming salon.

  1. Consider the amount of floor space that you have to design the grooming salon. You want to be sure to think out the floor plan in detail including all areas that are necessary to wash, groom and house the animals that you are grooming.

  2. Draw out a floor plan that includes areas for greeting customers, bathing and grooming the animals, laundry facilities and areas for the staff such as a lunchroom. Write out the dimensions of each space on the floor plan to help you visualize the completed space and ensure the proper fit of the different rooms and spaces within the grooming salon you are designing.

  3. Design the reception area where the customers will wait in a manner that is cohesive for both people and pets. If you are going to be grooming both cats and dogs you may want to have two separate waiting areas. Be sure to include enough seating for the customers who are waiting for a pet to be groomed.

  4. Consider placing the area where pets are bathed and groomed on a separate side of the building from the reception area to avoid allowing the noise to travel to the reception area.

  5. Add a boarding area if you are going to be offering boarding services to the pets you care for as well. You will need a separate room with multiple cages and kennels to house the animals you are boarding.
