How to Design a Jewelry Store
Believe it or not, there's a precise science and art to designing a jewelry shop. Fine jewelry is best displayed under dramatic lighting atop a darker surface to allow the piece to illuminate. In addition to cosmetic enhancements, when designing a jewelry store you'll also need to keep security precautions in mind as well.
What You'll Need:
- Contractor
- Building
- Fixtures
- Furniture
- Lighting
- Visit several other jewelry stores to evaluate the type of furniture and fixtures they use. Pay special attention to their cabinet, jewelry case, drawer unit, decorative accessories and showcase options used.
- Speak with your insurance agent to inquire about the security measures they'll require in order to insure your inventory. Typically, the insurance company will provide you with specific details regarding the type of glass, alarm system, panic buttons and storage vault you'll need to use within your store.
- Chose from one of the five standard retail floor plans including, straight, diagonal, and geometric options. Each of the floor plans has their list of advantages and disadvantages, but the correct choice for you will depend on your specific space. Generally, jewelry stores work best with angular floor plans. Work with a designer to select a layout that will compliment your budget.
- Purchase commercial furniture and fixtures to compliment your space. Working with a designer can give you access to discounts when you begin purchasing your equipment. When purchasing your lighting systems, look for a combination of T-5 florescent tubes and showcase halogen lights.
- Work with a contractor to finish the store and install the vault. Once everything has been installed, contact your local law enforcement agency and request a security walk through to highlight any areas of improvement regarding theft prevention.
