How to Destroy Black Mold

Stachybotrys Chartarum, or black mold, carries fear wherever it's mention. Stories across the Internet talk of the way it has destroyed people's health and lives. If you come across this greenish-black, wet and slimy fungus, you will no doubt want to be rid of it as soon as possible. Mold has the potential to carry toxins that are harmful to human beings. Black mold in particular is said to be extremely destructive.

What does black mold do to the human body?

That answer is not easy to define. Black mold and its effects are surprisingly controversial. Those exposed say they have had a variety of debilitating physical responses. Doctors and other professionals, however, generally agree there is little risk, and many say that the symptoms are actually a result of psychological illness, instead of black mold exposure. There is little research on this topic.

Those who have been exposed to black mold mention symptoms such as fatigue, vomiting, migraines, and even bleeding of lungs in infants. Common symptoms of exposure to other types of mold include allergy-like symptoms, (i.e. sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion). Those who already have problems with their immune system, such as those suffering from immune-deficiency diseases such as HIV and AIDS, are more likely to be affected by mold exposure.

How do you get rid of black mold?

There are two options for getting rid of black mold.

1. Hire a professional

There are professionals who will take care of black mold. However, be warned that not all professionals are legit. Some are banking on the fears of clients in order to gain money. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable mold removal service. This is your best option if you have a large area of mold.

2. Do it yourself

One step in this process is to place the moldy object in the sun or use a very bright light to dry it out. Bleach is a powerful remedy. In one gallon of water, mix one cup of bleach. Place the bleach on the molded area liberally and make sure to leave it to work at least twenty minutes. After your bleach mixture has had time to saturate the affected area, scrub with a strong brush. Wipe the area dry and use a blow dryer to make sure the affected area will not become moldy again.

Although research is not yet conclusive about the harmful affects of black mold, it's best to stay on the safe side. Where protective gear while cleaning your molded area. Protect your skin with gloves and your lungs by means of a breathing mask.
