How to Determine Baby Clothing Sizes
Determining baby clothing sizes can seem a bit complicated, especially for new parents. Once you get the hang of it, it is actually quite easy since most of the information that you need is printed directly on the clothing tag. You just have to look for it and know the age and size of the baby that you are shopping for.
- Find out the baby's age, height and weight.
- Begin your search for clothes for that baby's age group. For example, you may be buying for a baby that is 3 months old. You will generally find clothing that are for 0-3 months or 3-6 months.
- Next look at the weight that is listed on the clothing. Choose the clothing that is closest to the baby's weight. If the baby is at the high end of the 0-3 month old weight, it is usually a good idea to buy the 3-6 month clothing; this way the baby will able to wear it for a longer period of time.
- If you find that the weight of the baby you are shopping for is not listed, you may have to move up to the next size, perhaps, a 6-9 month.
- The age is not as important as the weight when choosing clothing for a baby. The age can be used as a general guide but each baby is different and some will weigh more or less than what another babies their age will weigh.
- You may also want to go up a size for a very long baby, especially with items such as pants and overalls.
- When shopping for a newborn baby, you will find clothing sized newborn and you can also shop 0-3 months; the difference between newborn and 0-3 is that the newborn size is for a baby that has just been born. Unless you have a small baby, this size will not fit for very long. If you have an 8 to 9 pound baby, they will outgrow the newborn size very quickly; it would be better to choose a 0-3 month size.
