How to Diagnose Home Stereo Problems

In order to lessen the chance of obtaining a high repair bill, taking the time to diagnose your home stereo problems can save you a great deal of time and money. Most of the technicians you will find will charge you a fee simply for the diagnosis, doing this yourself eliminates this charge.

  • Identify the problem before attempting to diagnose the issue. For instance, if you are having trouble hearing the volume, there is an issue with the speaker. This alone will eliminate other components that are in proper working order.

  • Confirm that all of the plugs are secured into place. If the television is not turning on, make sure that the connection is secured in the back of the television and into the electrical socket. Although it may seem like an obvious fix, this is often the source of a picture not showing or going in and out.

  • Check the cables to ensure they are tightly secured. The cable connector could have come undone without you realizing it. Additionally, if the cable is connected all the way, you can check to see if there is a shortage in the cable itself.

  • Look at the television to confirm it is on the right input selection. Change the input with your remote to see if that fixes the problem.

  • Clean the DVD or VCR head with a disc specific to that purpose. These types of products are available at your local retailer in the electronics section and looks like a VHS tape or a DVD.
