How to Diet and Still Enjoy Alcoholic Beverages

Just because an individual chooses to diet, does not mean alcohol becomes taboo. Learn how to diet and still enjoy alcoholic beverages, whether at a ballpark, during dinner, or at the local martini bar. Instead of teetotalism, continue to indulge in favorite alcoholic beverages without destroying a healthy diet.

Managing caloric intake does not automatically exclude a few drinks now and again.  With a few simple tips, prevent diet sabotage.

  • Change it up - One of the most helpful hints involves alternating water or seltzer in between each alcoholic beverage. This works especially well at parties, where everyone has a glass in their hand.

  • Count it out - For occasions where others imbibe, allot a drink budget into the total caloric intake. Instead of eating cake, cheese, or some other calorie-dense food at a meal, add extra vegetables and use the leftover calories for a drink or two.

  • Mix it up - Add seltzer water to wine for a spritzer. A spritzer contains less alcohol; therefore, there are fewer calories. Take diet soda and mix it with distilled spirits. Unlike drinking a shot, this will require sipping. Individuals drink less alcohol by default because of the volume.

  • Tone it down - Beer drinkers need not sacrifice their hops and barley. Beer manufacturers keep dieters in mind by producing lower calorie versions of their full calorie beers. Light beers deliver similar flavor for fewer calories.

Watching calories should not mean a person cannot enjoy the occasional beverage. Use careful diet planning to enjoy alcoholic beverages without guilt.
