How to Display Trophies and Ribbons

Trophies are earned in a variety of activities, from sports to scouting to artistic endeavors. They are symbols full of meaning and pride in accomplishment and shouldn’t be hidden away in a corner somewhere. Consider a single shelf higher up on the wall to form a continuous display piece.

Supplies

  • Trophies and ribbons

  • Shelving

  • Shelf brackets

  • Level

  1. Determine where to place the display shelf. Good choices are family rooms, dens, kid's rooms or rooms with a sports motif.

  2. Lay out the trophies in the order they are going to be displayed. Mix up larger, tall ones with shorter styles to add visual interest to the shelf. Make sure there is enough space for the tallest trophy, plus an additional two inches of room between the trophy and the ceiling before installing the shelving.

  3. Use a shelf that is attractive and matches your home décor. The shelf needs to be wide enough to accommodate the base of the largest trophy. Try to use one continuous piece of wood for the most attractive look. Install the shelving, making sure to secure the shelf brackets into the wall studs. Trophies are heavy, especially when several are displayed together. Make sure the shelving is level.

  4. Let any paint or stain dry completely before putting the trophies on the shelf.

  5. Hang medals and ribbons with the trophies they were awarded with, or put on the wall separately in a ribbon display.

  6. Use plate stands to add wall plaques.

  7. Consider adding photographs of teams or the trophy winner(s) interspersed with the awards.
