How to Dispose of Large Appliances
Used large appliances can take up space over time, so you should get rid of them properly. Disposing of a large appliance allows you to place the new appliance in its place. Dispose of large appliances by finding an organization or someone who could use them.
- Contact your utility company to find out when they pick up large appliances. Utility companies have certain days when they will pick up large items. Place the large item on the curb in front of your home the day before the utility company picks it up. Passerbys may pick the item up before the utility company arrives. Call the utility company back if a passerby picks up the large appliance up before they come to avoid having them come for nothing.
- Call thrift shops in your area to find out if they will pick up the large appliance. Make sure the large appliance works by testing it. Clean the large appliance off with a clean rag. Place the large appliance outside in front of your home for the thrift workers to pick it up.
- Take the large appliances to the thrift store in your truck. Bring a friend or family member with you just in case to help load and unload the large appliance.
- Contact a close friend or family member who needs the appliance. Take the large appliance to their home or have them pick it up. Make sure it still works to avoid the family member or friend having to dispose of it himself.
