How to Fold a Leather Jacket

How to Distress a Leather Jacket

The rugged look is very popular, especially when it comes to leather clothing. Distressing your leather jacket can make it more comfortable while giving it a more attractive appeal. Leather is sometimes hard to manipulate, so you may want to distress your jacket for this reason. Follow the given instructions to distress your own leather jacket.

What you will need:

  • Rubbing alcohol

  • Cotton balls

  • Water

  • Saddle soap

  • Blow dryer

  • Wire brush

  • Sandpaper

  • Leather jacket

  1. Fill up your tub or sink with water.

  2. Put some saddle soap and your leather jacket into the water. The saddle soap should soften your leather jacket up a bit.

  3. Push your jacket completely under the water and rub, creating suds.

  4. Squeeze the water out of your jacket. Do not try to completely dry your jacket.

  5. Crumple, twist and roll your jacket while it is still wet.

  6. Blow dry your jacket on high heat after laying on a flat surface in order for it to start to crack and age.

  7. Pour rubbing alcohol onto cotton balls and completely wet the jacket with the alcohol on the cotton balls.

  8. Drag your wire brush across the leather jacket to soften it and prepare it for sanding. The harder and longer you drag the wire brush across the jacket, the more distressed it will appear.

  9. Rub the leather with sand paper in a circular motion. Start rubbing gently, then as you get used to the motion apply more pressure. During this process, you will notice that the color of your jacket is getting lighter and more distressed.
