How to Do Ball Abdominal Workouts

Training abdominal muscles on an exercise ball is a great way to workout. There are many exercises to do on a ball that will hit the abdominal muscles from different angles. By trying several different abdominal exercises, a person can determine how many to perform during a regular exercise ball workout.

  1. Go to a gym or health club if you do not have an exercise ball at home to use for abdominal training. Do some stretching to loosen up your muscles and then take an exercise ball to an open area. Start your abdominal workout with some basic crunches.

  2. Position the exercise ball in the small of your back. Keep your feet flat on the floor with your knees bent. Put your hands behind your head and then sit up and squeeze your abdominal muscles. Hold for a count of one then return to the starting position to complete one repetition. Do as many repetitions as you can and then take a short break.

  3. Add a twist to the ball crunches to work your oblique muscles. Get into the same position you use for crunches. Sit up like you do for a standard crunch and then try to touch your right elbow to your left knee. Return to the starting position then repeat the movement for the other side.

  4. Take another break once you finish. When you are ready to do another exercise get down on the floor and place the backs of your lower legs on top of the ball. Lay down and extend your arms behind you so the backs of your hands touch the floor.

  5. Sit up and try to touch your toes with your fingers. Squeeze your abdominal muscles for a count of one then slowly lay down on the floor. Do as many repetitions as you can to finish your abdominal workout.
