How to Do Front Wheel Alignment

A wheel alignment consists of rearranging the angles of the wheel so that they are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground. This maximizes the life of your tires and you get straight driving on the road. If you need a front end  aligned, you may find your car steering to the right. Aligning the front end is a matter of rearranging the caster, camber and toe.

Instructions:

Things you will need:

  • Jack stand

  • Wrenches

  1. Raise both front wheels on the jack stands.

  2. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to accessory, so that the steering wheel will move around  freely.

  3. Look at one wheel at a time from the front view of the car. Check to see which direction it  is pointing. If it is pointing in toward the middle of the car, it means that the outer tire rod has to be tightened. If it's pointing outward, the tire rod has to be loosened.

  4. Loosen the nut that joins the outer and the inner tire rods. This will allow you to loosen or tighten the tire rod.

  5. The outer tire rod must be turned to the right or loosened if the wheel has to be turned more inward. If it has to be turned more outward, the tire rod should be turned to the right or tightened.

  6. Turn the wheel straight after you have made all the necessary adjustment, and check if the wheel is still tilting the wrong way. If that wheel is straight, do the same with the other wheel. Take a moment to drive and  enjoy your new aligned vehicle.
