How to Do Your Business Taxes Online

Many online tax services are geared toward both individuals and businesses. Many tax services offer business tax options applicable to smaller businesses as well as large corporations. Doing your own business taxes is a time-consuming process; however, the money saved by not hiring an accountant to do them just might make the effort worthwhile.

  1. Choose a system online that allows you to download its software or complete your taxes online in a secured environment, such as H & R Block or TurboTax for business. These tax preparation services help you make sure that all the schedules have been completed and checks for errors along the way. If it finds errors, do not skip over them, because if they are serious enough the IRS may ask you about it later.

  2. Gather your tax records for the previous year. You need receipts, earnings and losses. Hang onto these records even after your taxes have been completed and filed in case the IRS ever audits your business. Keep everything organized in a file with a copy of your completed tax return, and confirmation of filing, on top.

  3. Keep in mind that unlike individual tax preparation, business taxes have many more forms to fill out. In addition, you do not have to finish the taxes in one sitting, you can save it and come back to it later. Make sure if you are filling out your tax information in the online version that you click on the save option and you receive a message that it did save before exiting your browser.
