How to Do a Newspaper Layout

Believe it or not, creating a newspaper display can be a fairly simple process. You can create the layout using a software program that you probably already have installed on your computer, Microsoft Word. Once complete, you can print them out on paper used for newspaper to give them a real look.

What You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Word

  1. Open up the Microsoft Word program on the computer. Go to the "File" menu and select "New,” this will open a new document.

  2. Click on "Insert" then "Table" then "Insert Table." For older versions of the program, you'll need to select "Insert Table" first instead.

  3. Insert the number of columns you want under the section titled "Number of Columns." You'll need to choose the number of rows and then type in that specific number.

  4. Use your mouse to click "OK" in order to see the table. It may appear small, but as you type it will expand.

  5. Highlight the entire table if you plan to change the table borders. Click on the "Page Layout," option then "Page Borders." For older versions of the software program, you'll select "Format" then "Borders and Shading."

  6. Select your border options, such as thickness or pattern style, or if you'd like you can completely remove the borders.

  7. Select the "Preview" option to see what your selections look like. Select the "Apply to" if you are satisfied with your border changes. Remove the check from the "Table Box" if you want the new border for the entire table. Select "File" then "Save" to keep your work. You can refer to this template at a later date should you need to use it again.

  8. Use your mouse to click on "Insert" tab, this will allow you to place a picture within your column.

  9. Click on "Picture" or "Clip Art" from the selection menu.

  10. Select the picture you wish to have embedded in the column and click on "Insert" to finalize it.
