How to Work Out the Running Costs of Electronic Appliances

How to Donate Electronic Appliances

Donating an electronic appliance to a charitable organization is a better option than throwing it away. A charity will find a family that needs the appliance or dispose of it if it no longer works properly and cannot be fixed. It is also possible to receive a tax deduction for donating an appliance.

  1. Check the electronic appliance that you want to donate to see if it still works. You may be able to repair it if you consult the manual. Wrap up the cord and secure it with a twist tie or tape it to the appliance.

  2. Wipe the electronic appliance down with a damp cloth to get it ready to take to a charity. See if you can find the original box that the appliance came in to use for transporting it to the charity. Check the weight to determine whether to take the appliance yourself or to request a pick-up.

  3. Decide which charity to donate your appliance to. Look in the phone book to find a list of charities in the city. If you have more than one appliance to donate, you can give them to different charities instead of just one.

  4. Call the charity you choose to see if you can have your appliance picked up. If the appliance is small enough for you to lift, you can drop it off at the charity instead of waiting for it to be picked up. Make sure to get a receipt from the charity to use for tax purposes.

  5. Go online to find a charity if you want to donate to one that is out of your area. Look for websites that accept charitable donations and find out how to have your appliance picked up. You can also mail the appliance to the charity if it is small enough. Request a receipt from the website for your donation.
