How to Donate Used Shoes

By donating your used shoes, you could supply a needy family with much needed clothing accessories. The establishments that allow you to donate used shoes either donate these shoes to needy families or sell them at a low price to these families.

  1. Search MerchantCircle for your thrift stores in your local area. Type "thrift stores" into the search box at the far left of your screen and then type your city and state into the search box at the far right. Hit "Enter."

  2. Browse through the search results and look for thrift stores that take donations. Usually thrift stores such as Salvation Army and Faith Rescue thrift stores accept shoe and clothing donations. Some of these stores do have specific days in which the stores accept donations. Contact each thrift store within the search results to determine when these thrift stores accept donations.

  3. Take your shoe donations to the thrift store of your choice on the day which it accepts donations. Realize that you are required to bring these shoe donations to your selected thrift store during its hours of operation. If you are not sure of its hours, you should visit its website or contact the store to determine these hours.

  4. Wait for the representative of the thrift store to create a receipt for you. As you may know, charitable contributions are tax deductible. This does include shoes and clothing donations to organizations such as thrift stores as most operate through nonprofit companies.
