How to Donate Winter Clothes

There are millions of people in the world who do not have proper clothing for cold climates. Finding ways to donate winter clothes to needy individuals is a heartfelt thing to do. There are many organizations, churches, missionaries and other groups who gather needed winter clothes together to give to those less fortunate. Doing this small task with unused winter clothes can literally save lives. There are some useful tips for interested caring individuals.

  1. Gather all unwanted winter clothes into one area. Do not forget to check places where little used items may be stored.

  2. Sort the clothing into specific piles according to a system. You could put dirty clothing into one pile, clean clothing into another and so forth.

  3. Make sure to sort out the in good condition winter clothes from the badly damaged or beyond repair ones. Some might be considered lightly used and so on.

  4. Wash clothing that you plan to donate. If you have the time and the inclination, you could fix small things that need repaired. This type of service would be greatly appreciated by someone in need.

  5. Look in the phone book for different charitable organizations that may accept your contributions.

  6. Call the places and ask about their needs and requirements. They may be able to direct you to different organizations if they have no use for your winter items.

  7. Wander through the Internet and search for information on organizations and places that have need of winter clothing items. Use your search engine.

  8. Check with local churches and ask about any missionary work that may benefit from your donations. Often churches will know of different places to give your unused items to as well.

  9. Search local community organizations that may be collecting winter supplies.

  10. Donate your clothing to the organization, person or place that you have chosen. Get a receipt for tax purposes, as there may be a tax reduction for you.

  11. Do not forget about recycling centers for badly damaged items.
