How to Download Movies for Free

Beginner or Indie filmmakers will oftentimes upload their movies online for people to enjoy for free.  It is important to note that this is different from copyrighted movies, which are illegal to download.  With this understanding in mind you may wish to learn how to find, download and view non-copyrighted movies.

  1. Make sure that you know law so that you do not choose to download something that is illegal.  This is why you should only download and share content from Indie filmmakers or your friends.

  2. Familiarize yourself with torrents (a.k.a. BitTorrent).  This is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol that allows you to share bits and pieces of movie and music files.

  3. Find a program that will help you download and manage these Torrents.  One that is quite popular is utorrent.  This program is free and has user guides on their website that are easy to understand.

  4. Use a torrent tracker website that will hook you up with other users from which you can download and share movies.  There are hundreds of these sites online today.  Some of them are free; others do require you to pay for membership.  Use a search engine to locate them.

  5. Setup and configure your torrent client based upon the information that is found at the torrent tracker website.

  6. Find things that are of interest to you and begin downloading them.

  7. Unpack your movie so that you will be able to watch it.  Most movies are packaged with an .iso and .bin file.  You will need a program such as MagicISO or Daemon Tools to turn them into a file that you can view.

  8. Take some time to contribute back to the community.  Share things that are legal to share or create your own films to share.
