How to Dress With Men's Jeans for the Office
If you have a casual dress day at work, you shouldn't be too casual with your clothes. Jeans are good casual office attire, but they must be worn properly. Don't wear jeans at the office in the same way you wear them around the house.
- Make sure your jeans fit in with your overall attire. Your shirt should combine with your belt, jeans and shoes to form a coherent fashion presentation. A simple T-shirt along with jeans is usually too casual for the office, even on casual dress days.
- Check your jeans for any signs of wear. You shouldn't wear jeans to the office that have signs of fraying along the seams, wear marks around the buttocks and thigh areas or holes anywhere along the jean’s surface. They should look new, not like jeans you would wear around the house.
- Make sure your jeans fit you without being baggy or too tight. Baggy jeans, or skinny-fit jeans connote youth culture and do not present a professional image at the office.
- Mix in a button down shirt with a blazer and maybe a tie when wearing jeans to work. Choose a shirt that looks good even with your coat off. A button-down shirt and blazer combination strikes the right balance between formal and casual when combined with jeans.
- Stick with straight cut jeans for the office. Boot cut jeans are probably too casual for most offices. Straight cut jeans will pair well with a wider range of footwear. A straight cut jean will flatter most people's footwear choices, from suede boots to loafers and oxfords.
