How to Dress for a Mediterranean Cruise
A Mediterranean cruise can be one of the most fantastic sea voyages a person can take. The mild temperatures and beautiful sights make it one of the most sought after locations for a cruise. When packing for a Mediterranean cruise, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Dress properly on your Mediterranean cruise so that you are look and feel your best. Keep in mind what season you will be travelling. The daytime and evening temperatures will play a large factor in what you will need to bring with you.
Men
- Daytime- During the day, shorts and a t-shirt are perfectly acceptable. Walking around the ship without a shirt is not normally acceptable. This is best for the pool deck but not for most other decks. Casual pants and button-down shirts are also desirable.
- Evening- The evening clothing you wear will be dependent on the dress code for the particular evening. Most cruise ships have several different dress codes, including formal, semi-formal and resort casual. Different nights have different requirements, so be prepared. It is wise to pack a couple ties and sports coats.
- Ports of call- Resort casual dress is best for going off of the boat. Be comfortable but sophisticated. Many Mediterranean ports of call are not as relaxed in their dress as places in the Caribbean.
Women
- Daytime- Shorts and skirts are perfect for a day on the deck. Make sure that their lengths are appropriate for the time of year. Make sure that swimsuits stay on the pool deck; wear a cover-up if you go to another deck or when going back to your room.
- Evening- Again, the evening clothing you wear will be dependent on the dress code for the evening. Wearing a smart dress is your best choice for most evening meals.
- Ports of call- When leaving the ship, dress to stay cool as you walk the narrow Mediterranean streets. Remember that it will not be convenient to go back to the ship to change. Taking a light jacket with you will also be helpful.
