How to Dye Flowers
Flowers come in many different colors provided by nature; however, not all their colors are actually created by nature. You can dye a white flower to any color that you wish by simply using a bit of food coloring. The food coloring is absorbed through the stem of the flower and into the petals. While the water may evaporate, the food coloring stays within the flower itself.
How to Dye Flowers
- Pick or purchase any type of white flower. Daises, chrysanthemums and carnations are perfect for dying. Be sure they are fresh, otherwise the effect will not be as colorful.
- Fill a vase with approximately 6 inches of water.
- Add food coloring to the water until it is vivid. The more food coloring, the darker the color of the petals will be.
- Cut the stems of the flowers at an angle. Cutting the stems will enable the flower to soak up the colored water easily. Place the flowered stems into the colored water.
- As the flowers soak up the color the petals will begin to change color. Within several hours the new color should start to appear. Keep the flower in the colored water until the desired color is reached.
