How to Dye Shoes

With constant wear and tear, shoes normally tend to get discolored and dull. After a period of time, polishing does not have the same effect it used to have on the shoes. At this stage, using shoe dye is the best option. Here are some steps to help you get the best results.

  1. Prepare the shoes that you would like to dye. Use a damp rag to wipe away dust and debris, and leave it to dry thoroughly. If the shoes are not thoroughly cleaned, the surface will appear uneven when dried.

  2. Choose a dye that is suitable for your shoes. Most shoe dye come in liquid form with an applicator and can be found in a variety of colors.

  3. Spread pieces of old newspaper on the area where you will be dyeing the shoes. Put on a pair of gloves to prevent your hands and fingers from getting stained.

  4. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for that particular shoe dye. Apply the dye to the surface of the shoes using the applicator. Most manufacturers recommend two applications. You should allow the first application to dry for at least 30 minutes before applying the other one.

  5. Leave the shoes overnight to dry thoroughly before wearing them.
