How to Eat Healthy Snacks Late at Night

Late night cravings can be hard to resist. A few chips before bed or a plate of cheesy nachos is not the best choice for your health. Eating healthy snacks late at night takes some planning and a little willpower to resist those temptations.

1. Prepare a shopping list which contains a variety of healthy foods. Vegetables and fruits are excellent choices. If you enjoy dip, opt for a fat-free choice. A banana or a bowl of blueberries can make a delicious and healthy treat.  Peanuts, walnuts and almonds can be an excellent alternative to chips, plus your snacking experience will last longer. Prepackaged snacks are fine as long as they are low in calories. Some suitable choices would be fat free Jell-O cups, fruit cups or a low calorie granola bar.

2. Wash and prepare a day’s worth of vegetables or fruit. Cut up any carrots, celery or broccoli into bite size pieces. Store them in easy to reach containers in the refrigerator. When the urge to snack hits; choosing a healthy treat will be easy. Sometimes junk food is so simple because all you have to do is open a bag of chips and you receive instant gratification. Now, you can just grab a container of carrots and snack away, guilt free.

3. Reach for a healthy snack when that late night urge sneaks up on you. Now that you have healthy food in your home, it will be easier to make a healthy choice. A handful of almonds and a bowl of freshly cut strawberries and blueberries is an excellent choice. If you need something that involves less preparation, reach for a Jell-O cup or granola bar. If you become thirsty after consuming your snack, choose water as a drink. Avoid any juices, as these are surprisingly high in empty calories.
