How to Educate People About Pet Adoption

Educating people about pet adoption is important. You should tell anyone looking for a new pet to consider adopting one from their local shelter or humane society before going anywhere else. When someone adopts a pet, they’re actually saving its life. You’d be surprised with all the different breeds you can find at animal shelters.

  • Tell anyone who is looking for a new pet to visit their local animal shelter or humane society before they look anywhere else. Did you know that almost a third of the dogs living in animal shelters are actually pure breeds? The animal shelter may have the specific dog they’re searching for. They’ll save the dog’s life, and they won’t spend a ton of money buying from a breeder or pet shop.

  • Explain to the pet seeker that they usually won’t have to worry about paying for shots, neutering or spaying when they adopt from a shelter. Shelters usually keep all the animals up to date on their shots and control the pet population by spaying or neutering the pets they care for.

  • Tell people that, contrary to popular belief, animals at humane societies and animal shelters are usually healthier than animals you find at pet shops or breeding farms. Pets from shops and breeding farms may be subject to over-breeding, malnourishment, and neglect. All animals in humane societies and shelters must be checked by veterinarians.

  • Inform people that they can already find animals that have been house broken by previous owners at shelters. If they get a puppy from a breeder they’ll have to potty train them.
