Job Description for Desktop Support

How to Enable Remote Desktop Support

Remote Desktop Support allows access to the desktop from a remote computer that has the required software. A user is able to log on to a computer over the Internet while away from the actual computer. With remote desktop, you can access your work computer from home or vice versa.

  • Install a remote assistance software tool that enables you to give and receive support from other computer users online. Large businesses find this function especially useful, as the system administrator is able to solve technical problems without having to be physically present.

  • Hook up a computer with an Internet connection to enable the system to be remotely connected.  Be sure if you want to remotely control a work computer that the computer at the work site is powered on.

  • Turn on the host computer and click on the start button. Select the remote setting link and type in the administrator password if prompted to do so.

  • Press the enter key, and then select the option to allow connections from computers that are running a version of the remote desktop.

  • Click the ‘select users’ button.  Click the ‘add’ button on the window.

  • Select the option to allow users to connect remotely to the computer.

  • Type the details of the accounts in which you want to grant remote access. Enter the list and verify that all the details are accurate then press OK.

  • Click on the Apply button, under the systems property.

  • Go to the control panel and select firewall settings from the security center.  Add the remote desktop support company’s software as an exception to the list of allowed programs.
