How to Enroll Troubled Teens in Private Schools
It is often hard to find a school that will take a troubled teen. However, there are schools out there. The best thing to do is find a school that specializes in meeting your troubled teen’s needs and applies to that in order to get the best help for your child there is.
- Review the private schools for troubled teens in your area. See if there are any local schools that can help your teen work through his or her problems. Sometimes, the root of a problem lies in the teen’s environment. Removing the teen from what is causing their behavior and putting them in a private school may just do the trick.
- Research the academic programs in the private schools you are considering. Finding out about the treatment methods and talking to other parents about the staff and their attitudes will save you a lot of hassle in the end.
- Decide if you want to send your teen to a day school or a boarding school. Many boarding schools offer more extensive treatment plans and they have more one on one time with the troubled teen than a day school has. Military schools are also an excellent option for a troubled teen.
- Visit the private school with your teen. He may be troubled but taking all decisions out of his hands can only breed more anger and cause more lashing out. The school needs to appeal to him as well as to you because he after all will be the one going there.
- Keep an upbeat attitude, especially about the first day at the new school. Changing schools is hard on a family at the best of times.
- Check into the financial packages that the school has to offer. Boarding schools especially can be pricey. There should be packages available and in some cases disability funds as well.
- Review and complete all parts of the application. If you complete everything, have the financial aspects all worked out and your teen meets the treatment criteria then admission should be no problem and your teen will be on the road to recovery in no time.
