How to Estimate Exterior Commercial Painting
The price of exterior commercial painting will vary depending on different factors and the size of the building. Exterior commercial painting consists of labor, materials such as paint, equipment rental and overhead. You can easily calculate the cost of materials that the painting of the building will need but labor fees may vary in different areas.
Things You'll Need:
- Basic knowledge of math
- Calculator
- Measuring tape
- Measure the exterior surface that will be painted. Take this complete building measurement in square footage and include extra features that you want painted such as gutters and soffits.
- Divide the total square footage that you measured of the exterior by either 400 or 300. You will divide by 300 if the exterior is a textured surface and 400 if it is a smooth surface. Take this answer and multiply it by the cost of paint per gallon. Visit your local paint or home improvement store to get the exact price of the paint that you want to use. Typically, exterior paint of good quality ranges from $25 to $45 per each gallon.
- Determine a broad estimation of labor costs by estimating the amount of hours that will be needed to complete the preparation for this job. This will include washing the surface, caulking, sanding and more. Estimate the time needed for painting by dividing the rate of work by the amount of square footage to be painted. Add your two times together multiply by the hourly rate to get a good idea of the labor charge.
- Add in the price of equipment rentals if you do not own your own.
- Add together all of the final costs that you arrived at to get a good estimation for the exterior commercial painting job.
